Artist in Residence Joy Caros- Starts this Saturday!

13 05 2011

The Nicola Valley Community Arts Council is proud to play host to internationally-noted portrait artist Joy Caros, as a artist in residence at the Courthouse Art Gallery for the next 3 weeks. The public is invited to stop in and see her at work on a painting that will be auctioned to benefit Angel’s Animal Rescue, run by Joy’s daughter-in-law, Judana Caros.

Joy began her career as a professional artist painting portraits of clients at Trader Vic’s in Vancouver. Since then, she has made a name for herself and travelled the world painting portraits of the interesting and famous — such as tenor Andrea Bocelli and Chef Pino Posteraro, among others. Joy is also known for her portraits of dogs.”This is an extraordinary opportunity for local artists to be able to watch a painting being developed by an artist of such calibre,” says gallery director MK Dahlquist-Gray. Angel’s Animal Rescue has been involved in the Pepsi contest that could build a new and much larger kennel area for Angel’s, and the sale of the painting will go towards funding this project.

FMI, call the Courthouse Art Gallery, 378-6515.

Arts and Culture Questions for Candidates

20 04 2011

As we are currently in the midst of a Federal Election Campaign here are some useful arts related questions to ask when you are approached at your door by a candidates or canvasser or if you are at an event meeting a candidate.

If elected, how will you advocate for arts for our riding and for Canada?
What is your vision for the arts and culture in our riding?
What measures will your government put in place to ensure and sustain arts and culture’s contribution to our community?
What is your party’s stance on investment in the arts and through the Canada Council for the Arts?

These questions were created by the Canadian Arts Coalition. For more information check out their Action Centre here.

Tomorrow night is the All Candiatates Forum at NVIT and we will be asking at least 1 of these questions to the candiates. Stay tuned for their response.
