History of the NV Community Arts Council

The Nicola Valley Community Arts Council was registered as a society under the B.C. Society Act on January 5, 1982.

Throughout our twenty-nine years the arts council has been mainly involved with the performing arts. In March 2005, the Arts Council moved its office into the Olde Courthouse in Merritt. This building had been put up for sale a few years earlier by the provincial government and finally came into the hands of a private individual who wished it to be used as an arts facility. After renovations the Arts Council opened the Courthouse Gallery to show a variety of artwork, mainly local.

The artwork in the gallery changes monthly and the gallery is open Thursdays 4-8pm and 10-4 pm Fridays and Saturdays. Volunteers sit in the gallery in three-hour shifts to greet visitors and guide them through the exhibits. The gallery is also being used for drawing and painting workshops and a schedule can be found under Courthouse Gallery.
